Power yoga is no joke and a hard workout. To keep our endurance up for the entire class without crapping out midway through, we need to figure out how to stay fueled. Some yogis like to practice on an empty stomach while others like to have something light to help them stay strong thru class.

Below are some things I like to eat before class.  Now, I would not munch on these things right before class. Maybe eat it an hour or so before class.

Green smoothie:
Hemp seeds for protein
1 banana
Dash of cinnamon (You can never have too much)
1 Tsp of almond or cashew butter
A handful of spinach
1/4 lemon
Ice

Fage Plain Full Fat Greek yogurt
I like to mix with cinnamon (again, can never have enough as it tastes good and is good for you too),  coconut slices and cashew butter. Yum!

Cashew butter with a banana or an apple
What to eat before power yoga class in Conshochocken, Blue BellI carry a cashew butter packet with me at all times. It is a great little pick me up and a great source of protein. I eat it solo or I will put on a banana or apple. Perfect snack before class! Wegman’s has them sold individually for $1.79 each and Whole Foods sells them for a little more for $2.19.

Ezekial bread toasted with almond butter
Ezekiel bread is different for several reasons. Why? Whereas most breads contain added sugar, Ezekiel bread contains none. It is also made from organic, sprouted whole grains. The sprouting process changes the nutrient composition of the grains significantly.

Electrolytes
We sweat so much during practice that we sometimes forget how important it is to hydrate and replenish before and after class. Smart Water and coconut water has electrolytes in it.

So if you find that you can’t get through a power yoga class, you might want to try eating something light before class.  You want to make sure you have enough fuel to help you through the workout.

Namaste!
